MMA Memory Synergy

Targeted Support for Memory, Neuroplasticity & Healthy Brain Aging.

MMA Memory Synergy is formulated for acute inflammation affecting problem solving and memory, and long-term cognitive resilience. It is designed to enhance neuronal communication (chemical, hormonal and electrical signaling), support myelin integrity, reduce inflammation across the blood–brain barrier (BBB), and promote metabolic and mitochondrial health within brain cells.

If you’re interested in the “how and why” of what it takes to make the MMA Memory Synergy supplement, watch this video with Dr Kelly Rothe and Hagar Aharon, a Naturopath with The Vitamin Lab.

You can also visit The Vitamin Lab’s website at:  getvitaminlab.com to learn more about how the whole process works.

5 minute overview video about MMA Memory Synergy

Kelly Rothe, DO, an integrative family practice physician in North Carolina, and Hagar Aharon, a naturopath working with Vitamin Lab—the manufacturer of Dr. Rothe’s supplement line—discuss the MMA Memory Synergy formula as a targeted adjunct to the MMA Daily Nutrient Synergy, which provides general whole-body support for cellular health and longevity.

The Memory Synergy is designed to boost chemical communication between neurons and reduce inflammation across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to support memory and mental clarity, particularly for long-term use and for conditions such as long COVID or neurodegenerative diseases.

The brain’s protection via the BBB necessitates a specialized formula with ingredients proven to cross this barrier and support neuronal connectivity.

This formula works best alongside:

  • Brain-stimulating activities (learning, therapy, new skills)
  • Adequate omega-3 intake
  • Healthy sleep and metabolic balance
  • Strategic fasting or exercise (when appropriate)

Big Picture Goals

  • Support learning, memory formation, and brain repair
  • Maintain mental energy and focus
  • Protect against inflammation and oxidative stress
  • Preserve NAD+ levels and mitochondrial function
  • Promote long-term cognitive health and resilience
  • Who May Benefit

This formula may be appropriate for individuals who:

  • Want long-term cognitive protection
  • Experience brain fog or mental fatigue
  • Have increased cognitive demands
  • Are under chronic stress
  • Are concerned about age-related decline
  • Are recovering from inflammatory or metabolic stress

Use in individuals with medical conditions (including long COVID, metabolic disorders, or neurodegenerative concerns) should be supervised by a healthcare provider.

Important Considerations

  • Consult your healthcare provider before use.
  • Berberine may affect blood sugar levels.
  • Curcumin may influence liver detoxification and medication metabolism.
  • Omega-3s and curcumin may affect blood clotting in those on anticoagulants, and prior to surgeries or bleeding disorders.

Can Diet Alone Provide These Nutrients?

A nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet can support brain health and should always be foundational.

However:

  • Many of these compounds (NMN, concentrated resveratrol, astaxanthin) occur in relatively small amounts in food.
  • Modern diets are often low in bitter herbs (natural berberine sources).
  • Plant-based omega-3 intake does not reliably convert to adequate DHA levels.
  • Creatine intake is low in vegetarians and declines with age.

Supplementation bridges the gap between a healthy lifestyle and therapeutic-level intake designed for targeted brain support.

Dosing Guidelines

$70 — Capsules

  • 6 capsules daily is a full dose to heal the brain from inflammatory processes. As you heal you can taper to the lowest effective dose for maintenance as long as you need it.

Synergistic Formulation Design

Rather than using mega-doses of single ingredients, this formula combines targeted nutrients that:

  • Cross the blood–brain barrier
  • Reinforce each other’s activity
  • Support NAD+ metabolism
  • Provide antioxidant protection in both water- and fat-soluble environments

The combination of omega-3 fatty acids and curcumin enhances anti-inflammatory effects, while apigenin supports preservation of NAD+ levels boosted by NMN and resveratrol.

Lionsmane

Brain Growth, Learning & Neuroplasticity

Healthy cognition depends on forming and maintaining new neuronal connections. Even in laboratory settings, neurons will form new synapses when they have proper nutrients and stimulation.

Lion’s Mane

This beautiful forest mushroom supports nerve growth factor (NGF), neuronal repair, and myelin integrity. It helps strengthen the “insulation” around nerves and supports memory formation over time.

Lion’s Mane and its cousin found in September hikes in the temperate rain forest section of the Pisgah National Forest.

Dietary sources:

Lion’s Mane can be eaten fresh or dried as a culinary mushroom, though standardized extracts provide higher concentrations.

DHA (from Fish Oil)

DHA is a structural fat in neuronal membranes and the myelin sheath. Without adequate DHA, forming new neural connections is more difficult.

DHA also:

  • Stimulates Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF)
  • Naturally reduces COX-2 enzyme activity (a driver of inflammatory mediators)
  • Helps “put out the fire” of neuroinflammation

Dietary sources:

  • Salmon
  • Sardines
  • Mackerel
  • Anchovies
  • Cod liver oil

Humans can convert plant omega-3 (ALA from flax or chia) into DHA, but conversion is limited and inefficient.

NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)

NMN supports the production of NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a molecule essential for:

  • Cellular energy production
  • DNA repair
  • Mitochondrial function
  • Sirtuin activation

NADH (the reduced form of NAD+) plays a key role in energy production and dopamine synthesis. Clinical observations have shown NADH supplementation may support cognitive function in individuals with Parkinson’s disease, depression, and Alzheimer’s disease. Over a six-month observation period, individuals treated with NADH showed no progressive cognitive decline and improved total MDRS scores.

Dietary sources & support strategies:

  • Broccoli (and all cruciferous vegetables contain the precursors.)
  • Avocado
  • Cabbage
  • Edamame
  • Cucumber

NAD+ can also be synthesized from L-tryptophan. Some clinicians recommend 100–200 mg tryptophan before bed (under supervision).

Lifestyle strategies that raise NAD+:

  • Overnight fasting
  • Calorie restriction unless underweight, malnourished, or at risk of an eating disorder
  • Exercise
  • Cold exposure (as tolerated, like cold plunges)

NAD+ & “Sirt-Foods”

Sirtuins are NAD+-dependent proteins that regulate how DNA and RNA are read and translated. They are critical for mitochondrial health and cellular longevity. Without adequate NAD+ and sirtuin activity, mitochondrial dysfunction and age-related disorders increase.

Foods that naturally support sirtuin pathways (“sirt-foods”):

  • Chamomile
  • Green tea
  • Oolong tea
  • Chicory coffee
  • Wheatgrass juice
  • Cayenne
  • Turmeric (with black pepper and fenugreek)
  • Parsley
  • Dark berries
  • Capers
  • Kale
  • High-oleic acid olive oil

Apigenin

A calming flavonoid found naturally in chamomile.

Other dietary sources:

  • Parsley
  • Celery,
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Oranges
  • Onions
  • Artichokes
  • Spinach
  • Plant-based tea
  • Beer
  • Red wine

Apigenin promotes relaxation without sedation and may help preserve NAD+ levels by inhibiting CD38, an enzyme that breaks down NAD+.

Brain Energy & Mental Endurance

The brain consumes roughly 20% of the body’s energy at rest. Efficient ATP generation is critical for focus and mental clarity.

Creatine (1,000 mg)

Creatine rapidly regenerates ATP in brain cells, supporting concentration and mental stamina.

Natural dietary sources (1–2 g daily in omnivorous diets):

  • Herring (richest source)
  • Salmon
  • Grass fed Beef
  • Pork
  • Tuna
  • Poultry
  • Wild game

Vegetarians, vegans, and aging individuals often have lower creatine levels, making supplementation especially beneficial.

Berberine (300 mg)

Derived from Berberis aristata bark.

Supports:

  • Metabolic balance
  • Stable glucose utilization in the brain
  • Arteriole flexibility and vascular relaxation
  • Healthy endothelial function

(For comparison, 1000 mg is often cited for metformin-like metabolic strength.)

Berberine also acts as a natural antimicrobial against potential pathogen overgrowth. Gut health is closely connected to neurotransmitter production and brain function.

Dietary sources:

  • Bitter herbs such as barberry, goldenseal, and Oregon grape are rare in modern diets.

Inflammation & Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is a natural part of life. Chronic inflammation damages neurons and interferes with memory retrieval. The goal of antioxidants is to restore homeostasis.

Astaxanthin

Derived from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis (which accumulates high levels to protect itself from environmental stress), astaxanthin has a high affinity for brain cells

Dietary sources:

  • Wild salmon
  • Krill
  • Shrimp
  • Lobster

Turmeric Extract (Curcumin)

Traditional cuisines that use turmeric regularly may provide steady intake, but absorption is limited without fat or absorption enhancers like black pepper or fenugreek to help it last longer in the body. This formula uses a solid lipid delivery system to improve bioavailability and BBB penetration.

  • Supports balanced inflammatory signaling
  • Acts as a fat-soluble antioxidant
  • Synergizes with omega-3 fatty acids

Dietary sources:

Turmeric root for cooking or Golden Tea
Curry blends

Resveratrol

From Polygonum cuspidatum root.

Supports:

  • Cellular longevity pathways
  • Antioxidant defense
  • Sirtuin activation

Dietary sources:

  • Red grape skins
  • Red wine
  • Blueberries, cranberries, mulberries
  • Peanuts

Pomegranate

Provides polyphenols that support memory-related brain regions and protect against oxidative stress.

Dietary sources:

  • Fresh fruit is great on salads, in soups, and plain
  • 100% pomegranate juice

Calm Focus & Dopamine Support

Apigenin

Naturally found in chamomile, parsley, and celery.

Supports:

  • Relaxation without sedation
  • Stress resilience
  • NAD+ preservation

NADH & Dopamine

NADH supports dopamine production, influencing motivation, mood, and executive function.

The Synergistic Design

This formula supports:

  • Electrical nerve signaling (ATP, creatine, NAD+)
  • Chemical neurotransmission (dopamine support, membrane integrity)
  • Structural repair (DHA, Lion’s Mane)
  • Anti-inflammatory balance (curcumin, DHA, astaxanthin)
  • Metabolic and vascular support (berberine)

New neural pathways form most effectively when:

  1. Adequate structural fats are present
  2. Mitochondrial energy is sufficient
  3. Inflammation is controlled
  4. The brain is actively stimulated

Nutrients + stimulation = neuroplastic change.

Important Considerations

  • Consult your healthcare provider before use.
  • Berberine may affect blood sugar and gut flora.
  • Curcumin may alter medication metabolism.
  • Omega-3s and curcumin may affect clotting.
  • Tryptophan supplementation should be medically supervised.
